A Patronising Air.
Was just reading an article on GM (Genetically Modified) food and animals. Personally, I'm not all that well informed on this matter outside of the comic book realm. Spiderman's powers were derived from a transgenic spider, well at least in his recent incarnation on both print and film. Anyway from what I read, GM foods can help countries where people are dying of starvation everday. From corn that is immune to pests to cows producing more milk. Heck they even have rice that has more vitamins and minerals in it (called Golden Rice) which can help people who are unable to get a balanced diet.
And as much as I am loath to use this phrase "starving children in Africa" (I loath to use this because I think it's overused and people have become overly de-sensitised to this fact), these discoveries could benefit them greatly. And not only Africa, countries like North Korea, China and other countries struggling to feed her people.
But why aren't these countries getting said GM foods or seeds? Because of heavy protests from people in the developed countries. Granted they have valid points, but I don't think they are really qualified to speak given that after the protests, they go home and get their 3 square meals. At least give the people in these starving countries a choice. Who elected the other nations to become the mouth-pieces of the rest of the world? It's easy to chant slogans when it's not a problem in your own backyard. Sure there maybe potential hazards and consequences, but given that it may or may not manifest and even then much later on in their lives (in terms of diseases and stuff), it may be something that people are willing to chance rather than having tens of thousands if not more die everyday.
I'd like to see these protesters look directly into the faces of the starving and tell them. "We have something that may help you but we can't give it to you because it may be bad for you, even though you are dying of starvation. It's for your own good." But who knows, with the recent price increase in wheat and all wheat products due to wheat shortage, maybe the protestors will be changing their tune soon when the problem becomes very real to them. Payback as they say, is a bitch.

There's always one of them...
I just caught Resident Evil: Extinction last night and well the show was good, typical of what you would expect from an action flick. Shooting, gratuitous blood, naked women. (Actually 1 naked woman, but .. many of them.. go watch the show. It involves clones. ) The show actually opens with a naked woman lying in a bathtub, covered with the shower curtain.
Anyway in zombie/werewolf/vampire shows, why is there always someone who doesn't own up to being infected? I mean, it's obvious you aren't going to survive, so own up. Paul calls them the resident idiot.. Basically, if you're infected, you should tell your friends so that they are prepared to kill you when you eventually turn and they won't pair you up with some person unknowingly.
On a more fun note, for those who liked the game mario kart (in any form) or love kart racing, go download this online game Kart Rider. (kart.nexon.net). Easy and fun game.
In the spirit of Zombie mayhem, here's an online quiz on whether or not you'd survive a real life zombie invasion.

Well there's an Alvin & the Chipmunks movie coming out soon. With CGI chipmunks no less. But here's the latest. The Gummi Bears movie.

To those who are currently caught up in the Facebook phase...
Comparisons between America & the USSR
Here are a couple of jokes/quotes from this Ukraine-born American comedian Yakov Smirnoff:
Seeing American Life through the eyes of an immigrant from the USSR,
1) Reading employment announcements of "Part-Time Woman Wanted": "What a country! Even transvestites can get work."
2) Upon being offered work as a barman on a "graveyard shift," he remarks “A bar in a cemetary! What a country! Last call? During Happy Hour the place must be dead."
3) At the grocery store: "Powdered milk, powdered egg, baby poweder . . . what a country!"
4) "The first time I went to a restaurant, they asked me 'How many in your party?' and I said "Six hundred million."
5) "We have no gay people in Russia—there are homosexuals but they are not allowed to be gay about it. The punishment is seven years locked in prison with other men and there is a three-year waiting list for that."
6) He once told Johnny Carson, "You have such nice things in the U.S.—like warning shots!"
7) One Smirnoff joke is "Dissident Land," a play on Disneyland and an off-shoot of Soviet prisons. Supposedly it's so fun there that no one ever leaves.
8) "There are no Taco Bells in Russia. They didn't like the slogan, 'Run for the border.'
9) In the US, you can always find a party. In Soviet Russia, the Party finds you!
10) In the US, you watch television. In Soviet Russia, the television watches you!
11) In Soviet Russia we only had two TV channels. Channel One was propaganda. Channel Two consisted of a KGB officer telling you: Turn back at once to Channel One.
12) In Soviet Russia, if a male athelete loses he becomes a female athelete
13) Many people are surprised to hear that we have comedians in Soviet Russia, but they are there. They are dead, but they are there.
14) The ad in the paper said 'Big Sale. Last Week.' Why advertise? I already missed it. They're just rubbing it in.
