Of Owls and mice and men...

I know I told Michelle that I was going to rant abt events of the day here..and I really wanted to .. but I've changed my mind.. So unless michelle or jon blog it, that's the way it'll be.. haha..
As for the bits about the owls.. well more like 1 owl.. my fren has found a new fren outside her room.. haha.. its an owl.. how rare is that... I mean I doubt owls are native in Singapore. Such a rare appearance.. My fren, though at first quite scared of an owl outside staring at her, is now quite taken by it .. haha.. Should adopt it as a pet..
P.s.. it doesn't eat bread.. its a predator..

First of many long days...
Today was the first of a what will be many long days till this semester ends.. wasnt that bad except that I was falling asleep during the lecture.. I just cant stand statistics..lab was ok.. couldn't do everything thing but then that was to be expected cause it seems that no one can actually finish the Signals lab in the given time.. Why they do such stuff in uni? I havent the foggiest.. Same also to the reason why when we have holidays, we must have make-up lessons.. morons really.. can't they reduce the syllabus? I mean they know that holidays are coming up so plan for it.. I hate makeup lessons cause its blooming impossible to get a timeslot that can suit everyone.. once again NUS' administration astonishes me.. ok maybe not the admin.. maybe its just engine..

American Idol Season 3
Never watched the show before but watched it today at my grandma's house with all the relatives.. basically noticed a few things (major rants coming up)
1) Americans in general are tone deaf. Seriously, I mean ok so ur head voice and the other voice are different, but it can't be that drastically different right? And even if it was that different, the people around them should tell them that they honestly seriously can't sing and shouldn't pay loads of cash to take part in a show and competition to get dissed.. I mean come on.. its not nice..
2) They have very high expectations of themselves. To proclaim that they are the so called "next American Idol" and then dress up like some moron and sing terribly and refuse to accept it and even be pissed at the judges (sure Simon is a jerk but he makes valid pts)
3) Sing a song that suits ur voice type... And don't dance if you can't sing.. just makes you look dumb..
4) Tape yourself and listen to yourself before you take part.. Recording a cd is a cheaper way to embarrass yourself.. and if you still want to after that, invest in singing lessons.. ugh..

Just back from dinner at Crystal Jade Kitchen.. man I'm full.. My aunty must have failed maths like me.. there were 7 of us and she booked a set dinner for 10.. lots of food leftover and I'm stuffed.. ugh.. too much starch..

I hate maths!!
No this isn't some old post, its a new post.. this sem all my core mods are heavily rooted in maths.. I have statistics and probability, Differential Eqn, Fourier Series, Laplace.. basically its like doing 4 maths modules.. yes..

Haha was playing mail bombing today.. and discovered that there's a limit to the number of mails u can send using a hotmail acct.. interesting isn't it? haha..

Cold day
Been raining for a large part of the day.. Rainy weather is interesting.. Day was ok.. short day in school. Went home at 2pm. Tried to look thru my tutorials.. after a while gave up cause I couldn't seem to solve the last few and get the same answer as the solution.. so when I can't do.. morale drops and I give up.. Such is me.. also starting to feel holiday mood.. haha.. slept a bit in lecture.. not really.. was still listening just that eyes were closed. then after the halfway mark was oddly awake.. dunno why also.. haha..

Was a day when I didn't expect anything but many things happened.. dunno if good or bad.. well u be the judge I guess
Was supposed to wake up at 645am to pick up "You my fren" and michelle from simei.. (P.s for those that don't know "You my fren" is km. ) hahah.. who doesn't read this so doesn't matter.. anyhoo mum woke up at 7 which means I woke up at 7.. lucky rush thru breakfast, shower then was off.. picked them up then went to church.. suprisingly most of the ppl were there with a few noticeable latecomers.. haha..
Then headed off to Toa Payoh East to clean the flats. Well not bad but lucky got Ben Chng cause most of the ppl there spoke cantonese a dialect which I don't speak.. well cleaning was ok.. in the end cleaned 2 and a half houses but talked to a few.. actually talked more at the second last house when the lady spoke hokkien.. don't feel comfortable conversing in mandarin.. becomes very self conscious.. haha.. oh well..Then the hokkien house also very funny.. she wasn't very chatty just seemed very sad.. she had an operation and after that her legs were weak and couldn't do chores, then she was on frequent painkillers and stuff. hmm.. sigh.. I wanted to do stuff like "Be healed" and another blind lady "Receive your sight".. but dunno lah.. as in .. a) my faith probably not there b) I didn't know if it was like God's will.. anyway didn't.. Then got one is a lady who wanted cigarettes at first then changed to food.. which was funny.. anyway turns out that at like 4pm she still hadn't eaten and it was weird cause she just stood at her door with her hand stuck out .. turns out she had a leg problem and couldn't move I think.. sigh.. so I helped her buy food then passed to her.. but once again very sad.. its like.. in their twilight years and.. everything is like that... and like Jane was telling me later , if the ppl whom are receiving constant attention are in such a state, what abt those that aren't? hmm.. dunno.. I can imagine.. but sometimes I just don't want to .. cause I can't do anything.. honestly I can't fight every battle that comes my way.. I'll probably die of exhaustion or something.. anyway went back to church to relax a bit, went home to shower then went out for dinner.. later course of the night realised something that since I've joined BFEC, I've never been a member in activities until oddly enough today.. or rather today is one of those rare things..
I mean think abt it.. a) My first SSS camp I was a leader (which revealed by Daryl that he saboed me.. sigh)
b) My first church camp I was planning the youth section
c) Sister's Island (Rnd 2) was in charge
d) Bus Rally station IC
e) 2 SSS camps (personnel)
f) Car wash traffic marshall..
Rare to be just a member which is why I'm quite thankful that I was not made a group leader today.. partly because gives other ppl chance to just try the role for once and I guess I don't always want to take this role.. Nothing much to blog abt today

The worth of $18...
18 dollars can buy me lots of stuff.. like a steak at jack's place, a meal at fish & co, 9 bowls of red ruby, probably a new gar for my fish tank.. a cheap silver aro.. lots of possible permutation.. but what did I do? I went to Body World.. yes.. I paid 18 dollars to see dead naked bodies.. oh well at least wasn't a total waste with entertainment from Amanda making off the wall remarks and comments.. that's just priceless.. haha.. for everything else, there's mastercard.. haha.. but seriously I could have gotten those off the cuff remarks from her for free..oh well..

Feeling melancholic..
Been clearing out old mail from my hotmail mailbox.. reading thru old mail.. and I mean old.. got stuff all the way from 1998.. realised a lot of things have changed since then.. there were mails from my pre-army days, during army days, post army and now.. realised a lot of things have changed since then.. myself included.. and basically back then I would never have forseen most of these changes.. sigh..

Ok tutorial then boring lecture.. but interesting note is there is a bridge tourney coming up in school.. open to students.. haha.. who wants to take part? I quite interested.. but its contract.. so probably need to train up...

Or sunday night depending on when you read this.. basically 2nd meeting.. haha, we meet up at anonymous places to discuss stuff.. from nonsense to serious.. encompasses everyone we know.. haha.. quite fun.. done more as a release at times.. tonight we called 5 ppl and sang to them.. heh.. best would be Mark Seow.. we sang to him Shine Jesus Shine in the key of A.. yes yes.. he was so happy cause he was stuck in camp.. worst would be Jane's.. cause aiyah quite flop cause we were planning to call mark seow already then she suddenly called, then we weren't ready to do her song so off key and stuff.. then her side think got bad connection so .. sigh.. flop.. another time... basically we were singing to her "Fly me to the moon".. but oh well.. other 3 were janice chiang, amanda kang and lionel.. heh..
Songs were sang to them respectively were "Animal Song" , "To be with you" and "Sleeping Child".. all got significance to each one.. haha.. we might do it again next week... at another secret venue.. haha..

Just had a grueling 5 hr non stop day.. may become a 7hr non stop day.. sigh.. just realised how time slows down in the morning.. need to come up with a time dilation device to speed things up.. had 3 dollar kway teow in arts canteen due to extreme hunger.. so sad.. no more manjo juice in arts.. sigh.. sigh.. sigh.. also considering buying a sword.. maybe the macleod sword (which is a broadsword) of sorts or maybe the katana murasame.. probably the katana.. haha I not that big size to use a broadsword.. cool man.. hahaha.. that plus a bass guitar, bass amp and marshall amp.. haha.. man I'm going to be broke again..

Electrical appliances go nuts
My house has officially gone nuts.. we're on a cut down on power usage until the circuit breaker problem is solved.. basically my whole house trips if too much stuff is used at once ( at least that's the current theory) so computer using is also hard... )

Man what gives.. first Jane might be getting 1 free cause she's getting SCV when her renovation is done (she doesn't play it!! ), then now jerm gets one (ok so he does play it), why doesn't SCV give me 1??!!?! I have 2 modems at home.. darn it..

Just finished watching the show.. well more or less.. the last part not yet cause my whole house power tripped.. got something wrong with one appliance or maybe the circuit breaker at home.. keeps on tripping.. very annoying..
Anyway back to the show. The show is cool. Ok kinda dated since it was like 1985, but still quite nice. Everyone should watch it at least once.. :D

First day of school
Was an ok day. 2 hrs.. or rather 1 hr 45 min.. Lecturer is ok.. has a sense of humour and also a slight american accent .. which is quite odd cause he did his masters and phd in canada.. where is syracuse by the way? he did MBA there.. maybe that would explain the accent.
Tired mainly cause I slept past 2 last night.. haha.. been an ok day so far

An interesting day
It's almost 2 and I begin school tomorrow. But I have decided to chronicle the day before the images of it become faint. Woke up at 8.. which stretched to 8:30 cause I decided I wouldn't eat breakfast at home and eat at the coffee shop since I was meeting Joylyn there anyway at 9. I drove down to church and met Lionel who was .. (all together now) shockingly early.. haha was there even before me. Turns out he bought a new bicycle and had cycled down to church to see how long it will take him to get there.. haha.. oh well so we went to coffee shop. I ordered 2 eggs, 2 toasts and lemon tea.. also discovered then that I forgot to put money in my wallet after last nights sumptous meal.. haha.. had to borrow money from michelle later on in the day.
Later when Joylyn came I ordered another 2 eggs and ate one of her toasts.. haha..
First service of the year was quite good.. Basically its sort of a clean slate.. No top ten songs yet.. Interesting choice of songs by Nick. Was quite balanced with hymns and more contemporary stuff..
Message was ok. Basically to sum up: From the book of Joshua. Do you choose to follow God?
People whose names started with J went up to share. People around me were asking me to go up and share. I said if I went up I would probably be stoned.. haha or the world would end..
After that went to coffee shop for lunch with andy, liying, michelle, kevin and lionel (I think) there was a fifth.. can't exactly remember who it was.. wait think was mark.. hmm..
Noodles came late .. as usual.. then had worship. Was a short worship and also the fresh blood came in.. After that had a message of sorts. Also the announcement of the Toa Payoh Outreach effort. I only realised how rush it was when Timmy mentioned it.. realised that it will be 2 more weeks. Very pack.. more rush than car wash I think. But was nice to see Timmy up there in charge..
Oh yah forgot to add, Michelle, Jonathan, Tai Vie, Daryl and Jerm shared for a really cool present for me. A KINGDOM COME BATMAN!!! SO cool.. It's the most value for money in the whole series.. haha.. But its one of the cooler batmans I've seen. When have time will put it up on display. After that had a sharing session with the new group. Well some of them.. Michelle, Kevin, Aunty Nancy, Joylyn. Basically talked abt the year's objectives and goals and what they hope to take home from the group. Very business like but I guess I need to know their needs and stuff to be an effective leader. Very good time of sharing. Aunty Nancy is cool. I dunno if I've mentioned this before.. but she's one of the very few rare people I know who can look into people's hearts.. kinda scary I know.. cause I keep that area of me very walled up. So I dunno what she sees when she sees me.. She's sees the good in people that sad to say I haven't been able to do. Going to be an interesting year. Then later Cherlyn and Jane passed me the presents which they got me.. If you 2 are reading this sorry I was so brusque.. cause the sharing was really good.. and I want to say THANK YOU AGAIN!!.. haha. yay Highlander 1 the VCD and Highlander 4 : Endgame the DVD.. haha.. actually I kinda suspected it from Jane's odd remark about my present being something she wouldn't like but I would.. which was the exact statement she said when she watched a bit of Endgame when it was on tv.. I even tested out my theory on Michelle.. (sorry).. haha.. cause I knew that you would know something about it so I dropped hints about getting the DVD already.. haha to test your reaction.. but surprisingly you held out quite well..
After church we went for early dinner at Dunman food court.. then wanted to go east coast beach cause I was feeling very restless.. dunno why.. or maybe I know.. just needed to clear my thoughts.. but change of plans.. think God was actively changing my plans cause turned out that East Coast was super crowded so guess where we went? Back to church..haha the gate wasn't lock cause lionel didn't lock it when I sent him back after dinner cause we thought still got people upstairs.. long story.. nm.. but basically we (meaning michelle, daryl and I) stayed at the back of church to just stare at the sky, play guitar and talk.. we talked crap and also pretty serious stuff.. I love this kind of conversations.. make me check my own perspective and fine tune it.. but I came out of the conversation feeling kinda convicted I guess since I seemed to have made a lot of weighty points and I now hope that I can back up what I said..

Yet another eventful day
Woke up early morn cause I had a dental appt.. Was quite good, thanks to the brushing regiment thingy which my dentist put me on, my gums don't bleed anymore so dental visits aren't that painful. Dunno if I talked to anyone abt this before but we go to a dentist to get our teeth checked and also cleaned right? So why do I have to meticulously brush and floss before I go to a dentist to make sure its spotless before letting the dentist check? Sheesh.. my parents give me grief over this everytime.. its worse than taking an exam..
After that went to concorde hotel for lunch. Parents ate the buffet lunch but was way too early for me so I just ate a burger.. After that loitered at Somerset area while waiting for 3pm cause the band had to sound check at Youth Park. Bought me 2 new graphic novels which I hope to read soon.
Well the whole performance was pretty much a blur. Was over so fast.. haha.. so well quite good lah. Very thankful and grateful firstly to God (although I must confess I didn't spend a lot of time praying on this), and all the people that came to support.. even this huge group that I don't even know.. haha..
After that (sorry supporters for abandoning you all) but basically promised to treat the bandmates to dinner cause I didn't get presents for them.. so we went to Newton circus... ate quite a bit.. haha.. Then later went Lyndon's house for the meeting which lasted quite late.. after that quite delirious.. too tired..

It's been a long tiring day
But it was fun. haha.. quite nice to just have no worries or commitments. Also just spent the whole day out. Started in the morning with badminton.. originally thought was going to be be 2 hrs.. but thankfully we only booked the court when we got there so was only 1 hr. Cause only 4 ppl myself included played.. And it was a tiring game. way more tiring than the game we played on tuesday cause Jon and Adelene are better players than .. Esther.. haha.. sorry kiddo.. u need more prac. I didn't even work up a sweat that time. (figuratively)
After that we went to TM foodcourt for lunch where I ordered a $5 dollar mee pok.. haha nice.. got lots of extra ingredients and stuff..then mark and amanda came by. After that waited for ard 1:45 before went to pick Jane up. Went to life bookshop, went to mac's, went to toys'r'us, went to cash converters. Then later we went to Jane's place to pick her up. She just had softball prac/competition? think its prac.. so told her.. think u better shower first.. ugh.. 1 person who didn't shower is enough.. sorry Ade.. haha..
So when we got there.. turns out she was driving.. (on a side note... she was tanned/burnt quite red) so Amanda went over first cause she called shotgun. Then Ade went over too.. I was perfectly happy in the blue van, but Jane said "come over so you can lead the way" then I was like.. ugh.. check life insurance first and all that..
So I went over. Seemed ok. Buckled up and off we went.. but ard 30 secs of driving later, the car was still beeping.. turns out she didnt release the handbrake.. yes.. off to a great start there, btw in a span of 20 minutes, I was given like 3 concussions courtesy of going over a hump at 20km/h.. Went to pick up Johnny when we both realised we didn't know exactly how to get there.. so Johnny said.. "Go ECP" which I then agreed cause ECP can go almost everywhere.. haha.. thankfully the blue van caught up with us then off we went.. After arriving at Marina South to fly kite (yes.. laugh out loud now.. I went to fly kite.. the irony is not lost on me) Some bought the cheaper kites (means fly once then throw away) like Mark Seow who made a "freak" kite.. sigh.. Johnny who bought a Man U kite, Amanda bought some other kite, Marnchi and Charmaine shared for a Power Puff Girl kite,and Jane and I shared for a snoopy kite.. I was looking for something more normal but oh well better snoopy then some kite with lots of ang kong on it.. haha.. Then wind at the start was good so quite easy to get it up in the air.. I didn't really do anything to get the kite up.. was mostly Jane who for a person who never flew a kite before was quite good.. the only kite I've ever flown was the kind you make in primary school.. haha.. so she got it up in the air.. then I played with it for a while.. quite cool.. we were competing with the PPG kite.. then I got too ambitious and gave too much string which cause the kite to crash down.. sigh.. after that winds died and all the kites had difficulty taking off.. James modified the PPG kite with lots of string so it flew the furthest and highest but it too came down.. After that due to underwhelming support we went back East for dinner. Jane, Amanda, Ade and Johnny went back. Jon sent James home, mark seow to get money then we went to bedok camp for dinner. Sumptous dinner with sting ray, chicken wing, kang kong with cuttle fish, satay and lots of cheng tng... then later john cho, jocelyn and emerald appeared. We later went to Jon's house to just bum before going to Gelare for supper.
Lots of mini events going on, like marnchi and jerm's bizarre conversation, waiting for jane but turns out she was just next door.. haha.. , jerm's inner monologue.. haha.. After that when most ppl left, mark seow started this conversation abt horror shows which was quite interesting.. we said which shows were good and what sucked..
After that decided to call it a night when I assume we went our seperate ways cause I walked off.. decided I needed some time alone to sort my thoughts and think the events of the day thru.. was going by instinct rather than thought.. reacting the whole day

New Year reflections 2003
Hmm its that time again.. time to see what I've done this year and evaluate how things have gone..
Let's go by the mths.. think by category will be quite hard
January
Spent first day being totally wasted from total sleep deprivation.. which later ended with a nice dinner at Bedok Camp hawker which had stingray.. we doing that this year again? haha... obviously I won't be wasted this time round because I'm at home instead of pushing my body to the extremes again.. I'm too old already..
Was this year that I started to drive again after the accident. I remember it as chinese new year.. needed the car to transport people from church to Sam's place. Which I guess restored my confidence? sort of anyway to drive on average once a week.
February
Can't really remember much.. think was quite a lull period since I only had 3 core modules.
March..
oh bugger can't go like this.. heck I'll just think of stuff that stuck out thru the year and comment on it.. later do the post mortem and stuff...
SARS hit ard April I think ? which resulted in stuff being cancelled and stuff being organised in place of it.. Church camp and Mt Ophir trip cancelled replaced by Bus Rally and Sisters' Island trip. Didn't really help out much in the planning of the former so was quite relaxing for me.. cause I was totally wasted from the island trip planning and stuff. Sisters Island was a tough one.. I mean numbers and logistics and money to settle everywhere.. Luckily had help from everyone.. from Amanda who did the booking of boats, to Michelle, Jerm, Maine and Adrian for the publicity, Ben, Sharon, Liying for the food, Jane for planning the groups, Jon for the carrying of logistics.. hmm lots more ppl.. sorry can't recall all now..
After this was.. carwash. Hmm.. ok thing abt this was I wasn't really involved too.. I was just supposed to be a grunt (as in take orders and wash car.. ) but somewhere along the line.. I became more involved.. mental note: don't wait for meetings to end to go supper.. go during supper.. but I think car wash was a turning pt for me.. before that I was feeling super drained and stuff from all the activities and not feeling the motivation to serve.. then a visit to COH (Christian Outreach to the Handicap) changed it.. seeing how the people there lived.. simple yet happy lives.. and how what we were doing was helping COH.. guess that gave me the remaining steam I needed to clear this event..
After that started 2nd year of Engine.. Electical Engineering..
That's still a rough ride which I'm carrying injuries from.. it's been a very rough sem.. Makes me second guess a lot of things .. like whether I made the right choice or not..
In between.. hmm nothing that concerned me directly i guess. but stuff that made my walk a bumpy one..
Post Exam..
Lots of activities, camp, play and caroling.. seems like a cycle similar to the mid year one.. with 1 difference...
Now last day of the year
Day started out good I guess. whether was good. was able to get car. Went with Jane to parkway to help her choose a broadband connection, then met with the rest for lunch at jack's place. After that came home to just slack till dinner time where I met them again for dinner at Bedok. Left before watchnight service. Didnt want to go down to begin with but thought could collect the money that Adrian owes from the play.. so I wouldn't be so broke. but that didn't happen..so yeah.. a bit low of cash now. Got 400 that cannot be touched cause its meant for Jason's amplifier.. which I should have settled with him last sunday.. but forgot.. Anyway feeling.. hmm pissed now.. don't ask me why. I just am. And I don't want to explain. I need to vent. Thought playing Time Crisis 3 would help. didn't really work. Maybe getting desensitized.
Anyway I was told before never do anything when you're depressed or upset, because your mind will be clouded.
So here goes nothing..
The year in review. I've done stuff. But nothing that I feel is not self serving? Besides the car wash which had a practical application. I think I need to do stuff which is more application of what we learn instead of always learning. I'm quite sick of sitting back and getting head knowledge..I may not know everything or even half of everything, but I think I know enough to do what needs to be done.
I have been too rash. I must learn to restrain myself more.. my rashness will cost me much.
I have not been able to get the time away that I would have desired. What I have will be enough then..
Next year:
More focused. Confirm : the group I'll be taking next year. Uncertain: musicians training? still praying on that. Not intending to do anything else next year. No island trips, no camps, no caroling , no plays no musicals.
Adapt and survive. Move on with things. One cannot live in the past, on what ifs and what might have beens..

January
Spent first day being totally wasted from total sleep deprivation.. which later ended with a nice dinner at Bedok Camp hawker which had stingray.. we doing that this year again? haha... obviously I won't be wasted this time round because I'm at home instead of pushing my body to the extremes again.. I'm too old already..
Was this year that I started to drive again after the accident. I remember it as chinese new year.. needed the car to transport people from church to Sam's place. Which I guess restored my confidence? sort of anyway to drive on average once a week.
February
Can't really remember much.. think was quite a lull period since I only had 3 core modules.
March..
oh bugger can't go like this.. heck I'll just think of stuff that stuck out thru the year and comment on it.. later do the post mortem and stuff...
SARS hit ard April I think ? which resulted in stuff being cancelled and stuff being organised in place of it.. Church camp and Mt Ophir trip cancelled replaced by Bus Rally and Sisters' Island trip. Didn't really help out much in the planning of the former so was quite relaxing for me.. cause I was totally wasted from the island trip planning and stuff. Sisters Island was a tough one.. I mean numbers and logistics and money to settle everywhere.. Luckily had help from everyone.. from Amanda who did the booking of boats, to Michelle, Jerm, Maine and Adrian for the publicity, Ben, Sharon, Liying for the food, Jane for planning the groups, Jon for the carrying of logistics.. hmm lots more ppl.. sorry can't recall all now..
