The failure of our education system..
Was wondering what pH stands for for a while now.. and funny thing.. no one I know knows the answer.. and they all possess above average intelligence.. I was even able to con ppl to believe that it stood for physical hardness.. hahaha..
Anyway for the record.. it stands for potential hydrogen!! :) Go forth and spread the news..

Putting things into focus
Just received an sms a while back. It kinda put things into focus I guess. A man is about to be executed via beating tomorrow in East Timor. He went there to do what he believes in. Whether or not he has any regrets or any fears I do not know. But what I do know is that it put things into focus. It makes the FYP and other issues quite small. Not to say that I won't be ranting about them still.. I'm only human. But its sobering.

Lord of the Ring meets Sin City!
Just watched the Sin City Dvd that my dad brought back from the States. Nice show. It's really well written. Kinda like an anthology where everything is linked. I like those stories. Those are the best kinds of stories. Anyway Elijah Wood plays this sick psychopath killer who's also a cannibal. Anyway I was thinking that if Frodo was like his character in Sin City (Kevin).. then well.. the show would have ended much earlier. Man Kevin can fight. He's flying and kicking and all that.
I would recommend the show to people who like good stories. I'm not saying that the sights are not pretty.. but .. its a nice story.

Finally Friday.. again
Once again another long and tiring week comes to a close. Most of my major assignments are in or completed. Now left with FYP. I know I'm not supposed to have to finish it this semester anyway but need to at least come up with some stuff for my CA2 presentation. Just finished 6 samples around half an hour ago. Took me 3 hours. It's so annoying. I enter the clean room and I find that someone just re-arranged the furniture. Had to waste like 10 minutes trying to get some space to get my work started.. Messed up 2 slides today.. which wasted time too.. its quite annoying.. At least I managed to meet my target for today.
Next week going to be another rush week. It's a sad thing when you're sad that you have holidays cause it means u can't go to the lab to rush ur experiments.. sigh.. Think need to go to school at 930am on Monday to make full use of my time. Need to learn a new machine called MOKE.. dunno what it stands for also.. Hopefully the slides I made today meet the requirements my supervisor specified.. else Monday got to do another 6 slides.. its really annoying.. sigh..

My 14 hr School Day
First experience of spending 14 hrs straight in school.. It's not the 14 hrs I mind, heck its not even the fact that I didn't get to eat dinner till past 12 and also couldn't go to the toilet from 6pm to after my lab pass 12 midnight.. That one is just sad.. cause after 6pm, my visitor pass won't grant me access into the labs so I couldn't go out to eat or visit the gents..
What really got to me was how everything just went wrong yesterday at the lab. Firstly, I realised I forgot to buy the marker pen to mark my samples after I wore the clean suit and all, so I asked one of the ppl in the lab if I could borrow, and yeah.. she took it quite literally, after I used it on one sample, she took it back without telling me and locked it in the cupboard (with padlock and all).. how serious is stationary theft around here?.. so had to take off clean suit, go to co-op to buy then go back.. when I went back, my second supe was looking at the machine cause it was making noise the previous day.. thing being when he and colleague looking at it, I cannot work.. after that he left.. so I did a second sample which I realised i forgot to rotate so that sample was voided.. Then when I went to get lens tissue, my second supe came back with another guy to look at the machine and my second supe said that I couldn't work while he was looking (even though I wanted to do 24 samples.. each one takes approx 15 min).. no choice so just sit and watch.. then this guy wanted to take apart the machine to look.. and I was thinking.. "what the heck.. I know you're trying to do your job, but I'm trying to meet a deadline here.."..so after ard 1 and a half hours of them looking, poking and prodding the machine and thinking of taking the machine apart, they finally left though they said they will take out the component on friday.. which means after friday for an indefinite amount of time the machine will be down.. man this just sucks..
After they finally left, there was a sample which dropped into the machine. I went to look for supe ask him if its ok to carry on and thankfully he said yes.. came down to realise I was locked out of the lab.. had to wait till some guy was nice enough to open the door then after that stayed in till 12:30am..

Slight less than 1000 words to go !!
Spent my day working on my 2000 word history essay. Now slightly less than half way thru. Taking a reprieve here..Anyway was reading some of the quirks of ppl I tagged.. I realised that I too read the life section from back to front. The reason I do this is cause for the longest time I always thought that the tv guide was the first page.. haha.. even after I found out that it wasn't, I still did the same thing cause well.. its the tv guide.. then comes the comics.. then misc articles which are of lesser importance.. ah..
Ok back to work..

Now for something totally different..
Just realised I got tagged by Cheryl 2 days ago. Ripping the instructions directly off her blog (cause I'm lazy)

Quirk 1: I like salt. Seriously. Salt makes everything go down well.. Salt is also interchangeable with MSG (which is an additive that is similar to salt). Everyone should like salt.. salt makes bad cooks good and good cooks better.
Quirk 2: I can't take too much sugar. My ability to take sugar is inversely proportional to my ability to consume salt. Sugar makes me sleepy. It's like a drug of sorts.
Quirk 3: I cannot for the life of me consume coffee. Coffee flavored stuff ok.. coffee the drink nope.. The slightest amount of it makes me feel dizzy and keeps me up all night.. I amplify the effects of coffee.. haha..
Quirk 4: I like exotic animals. I have a 6 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot fish tank (which could possibly substitute for my coffin). In the tank are 5 arowannas, 1 gar which I just found out is a crocodile gar (hybrid of spotted and alligator), 4 plecos (also called sucker fish) and 1 motoro stingray.
Quirk 5: I have an extra tooth that is supposedly embedded in my jaw (revealed by x-ray). It's called a super catenary or something like that.. But since its probably never coming out, its like I don't have it.

Curiousities and Annoyances
Seen and heard some amazing things while I've been on a hiatus. In no particular order of merit, weirdness etc..
1) Was on my way home on the MRT when I saw these pair of really lady like slippers.. you know the kind you see women go nuts over.. crap.. hard to describe this.. but take my word for it.. lady slippers.. anyway as I was getting off the train I noticed: It was a guy wearing it. This man of around 40 years old.. There's a man who's really secure in his masculinity.. or needs to get his eyes checked..
2) Handphone ringtones.. is it me or are they getting more and more annoying? The users of the phones themselves are getting dumber too as the phones become more advanced. I've been in situations where a phone rings, the owner doesn't realise it until the ring tone has looped twice.. person then looks at number (resulting in another loop) then finally picks up.. Crap people.. ring tones are so you know that your phone is ringing.. not EVERYONE else.. know your ring tone people.. please.. and if you like music, use the fm radio on the phone..
3) Handphone cameras.. this has to be the absolute bane of the civilised world.. People go gaga over handphone cameras.. Just encountered these 4 youths today. In a packed train, they were trying to take pictures of themselves by holding the camera really high up.. yeah.. that's real smart.. make it even more uncomfortable for everyone around you.. then one of them, this big boned (fine.. plus sized) girl squeezes her way to ensure that she appears in the picture.. Listen to me kids.. save up.. buy a camera. Take nice good decent pictures.. Handphone cameras are for voyeurs..
4) Somewhere this week or last week some bloggers were charged, arrested, jailed/fined.. don't know don't really care.. then some students also got suspended or what not.. you know what's the best part? People are now saying how its unfair, and that its against freedom of speech blah blah blah.. Look.. you want a place to air your thoughts privately, keep a real life diary.. online weblogs are online for a reason.. its for other people to read.. don't deny it.. people keep blogs cause secretly part of them wants a) attention b) other people to read what they think/feel/did blah blah blah.. c) others (aka lazy to list others).. So don't ever use the excuse that it was meant to be private.. if its online its not private and therefore you can get sued.. Brain dead morons.. observe the living proof that evolution doesn't exist..
*P/s: As you can all probably tell.. I'm just venting and all.. part of me probably wants attention but not that much..
