Shows that are not getting the attention that they deserve
There are some shows that, well will naturally get people's attention and therefore become hits. Shows like Lost (good gimmick), Simpsons etc etc. But there are other shows that are well written but because of people don't watch them (reasons ranging from sucky timing (especially singapore programming), going up against good shows) and thus get cancelled.
Classic examples of shows that are well written but end up in the graveyard too early are shows (well to me anyway): "Dead Like Me" - excellent show abt a girl who dies and comes back as a grim reaper. Show's a dark comedy. "Carnivale" - a show about.. well.. lots of stuff.. potentially how the world was going to end during world war 2. Never had the chance to develop. "Coupling" curse you BBC!!! CURSE YOU!!!
Well here are some shows that you all should be watching. Because they are well written. "Scrubs" - on the outside a sitcom about hospital workers. But spend some time to look beneath and it's actually much deeper. Lots of issues get dealt with.
"Monk" - come on, this show's great. Great premise and stuff. Very flawed main character.
"House" - does this count as a good show but not watched? Not sure, but same reason to watch as Monk.
" How I met your mother" - this one has yet to come to Singapore. Hopefully it will be brought over one day if America doesn't cancel it.
The reason (man this is a long post. Sorry taking a break from writing thesis) for most of this cancellation is because people like to watch crappy reality tv shows. Seriously. Too many shows and most just suck cause they depend on people showing their worse and wanting to kill one another. Why watch such things? Read the papers, watch the news, drive on the roads of Singapore... Other than Amazing Race (which slowly borders to trashy), other reality tv shows suck. American Idol's a guilty pleasure I admit, but shows like survivor, fear factor, project runway, bacholar/ette and yes.. Kang's fave show "Simple Life".. ugh.
And shows that shouldn't be around anymore are still going strong. I'm not even talking about soaps. I'm talking about Power Rangers. Why are kids still watching Power Rangers? Why oh why? It's the same plot. It's been.. more than 10 years.. Future generations will look at us with scorn.

Quotes
"When I was 10 I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I was found doing so. Now I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up"
C.S. Lewis

Argh!! My eyes!!..
Just caught American Idol. The last contestent. Rondella was it? She has blinded me with .. her evident lack of dress sense. Correct me if I'm wrong (women who read this) but, if one wears a tube top, one assumes that there should be a basic kind of figure right? As in.. the stomach should not be overly bulging? Same for mini/micro mini skirts and thunder thighs.. Oh my.. Well she did get it right when she said she was going to be bigger than J Lo and someone else.. can't remember who.. But yeah.. she could be.. I bet if you put both of them together you can get her weight..
What's wrong with American education system? Where are these people getting produced from? First Paris/Brittney hybrid last week.. then now this.. America is indeed going to fall..

New Spidey Costume!

Stoned out Brittney/Paris Hilton clone...
Anyone caught American Idol? The contestant who came on near the end of the show. The one with the odd tan.. Does anyone else think she sounded stoned? I mean she sounded and acted like she just smoked a bong.. She was so blatantly stoned with the bizarre giggles and what not.. What we have here is a classic case of needing a dropping anvil. ACME !! Where are you???

Multi-racial birthday dinner
Just back from a very eventful dinner. Thought it was supposed to be a wedding anniversary at first then I saw the invite 5 minutes before the event and realised it was a 70th birthday dinner. Well it's sort of an anniversary. Anyway lots of interesting stuff. Basically was multi-racial/ethnic event cause the person whose birthday we were celebrating was my cousins' grand uncle.. which is not really related to me by blood but by marriage. And he's Indian so all his relatives came over from India then also another side of relatives from Australia so all the Ozzies also.. so basically a mix of different culture. Quite evident during the dancing when they played some bollywood hit songs.. too bad don't have Martin's fave "Churi Chrui" song.. quite cool. All their dance steps very authentic one.. haha.
There was also a side story involving the waitress. My cousin suddenly asked me "hey she's quite pretty right?" Then I said "yeah". Then she was like "That's so funny. Me talking to you about this." Then through the whole night we were trying to get her name by looking at the name tag. But let me assure you. It's not easy. Firstly she moves very fast and is so polite that when she speaks u automatically make eye contact thus cannot read the name tag.. darn.. Then the lighting was quite bad so I couldn't see nuts. Then always the angle wrong so we both can't see. The closest came when she was right in front of me and asked if I wanted a drink. But the music was so loud I was like "huh?" Then I looked at the tag.. but guess what I saw.. "Singapore Swimming Club".. . the name was below that.. but then I heard her again looked up (d'oh) and couldn't see the name.. argh.. I'm guessing it's a chinese name cause I think I saw 3 parts in the name.. A mystery for the ages..

Which of ur senses/instincts do you trust the most?
I realised over the course of .. well life in general that sometimes we tend to take what seems to be obvious as the truth. Sort of like sixth sense-ish kind of scenario.. without the ghost.. or the show "The Others". When you only see one perspective or what other ppl think they are seeing or what they are injecting into it, you can be deceived. I mean I've fallen prey to this kind of "deception" too.. Even logic is not infallible.

Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find you and I collide"

Funny Review of Narnia
Quoting from another blog: http://www.livejournal.com/users/nicklocking/86724.html
"Lucy, Susan, Peter and Edmund are hiding out from the dirty Jerries in a set hastily borrowed from the Harry Potter films and created by Americans who love the opportunity to make real the magical fantasy land of 1940s Britain. The children quickly point out their character traits - in wartime Britain, character trait rationing was in full effect and thus the children are only allowed one each. Susan is so cold and rational that she makes the Terminator look like Papa Smurf, Peter is The Leader, Lucy - charming Lucy, always my favourite character from the books - is innocent, and Edmund is Starscream."

Deja Vu...
My quarter century birthday just passed. But events leading up to it were oddly similar to it last year. Firstly there was steamboat the day before and secondly an attempted surprise. Also free ice-cream similar to last year.. except now was at Tampines Swensens.. Slight difference would be the gift of livestock.. but it's all good. :)
Stay tuned for the next post: Joel vs Metro (Century Square)

"Crazy for this girl" By Evan and Jaron & "Have you ever" by Brandy
Verse:
She rolls the window down
And she talks over the sound
Of the cars that pass us by
And I don't know why but she's changed my mind
Chorus:
Would you look at her
She looks at me
She's got me thinking about her constantly
But she don't know how I feel
And as she carries on without a doubt
I wonder if she's figured out I'm crazy for this girl
Verse:
She was the one to hold me
The night the sky fell down
And what was I thinking when
The world didn't end
Why didn't I know what I know
Bridge:
Right now face to face
All my fears pushed aside
And right now I'm ready to spend the rest of my life
With you.
[Chorus]Have you ever loved somebody so much
It makes you cry
Have you ever needed something so bad
You can't sleep at night have you ever tried to find the words
But they don't come out right Have you ever, have you ever
Verse:
Have you ever been in lovebBeen in love so bad
You'd do anything to make them understand
Have you ever had someone steal your heart away
You'd give anything to make them feel the same
Have you ever searched for words to get you in their heart
But you don't know what to sayAnd you don't know where to start
Have you ever found the one you've dreamed of all of your life
You'd do just about anything to look into their eyes
Have you finally found the one you've given your heart to
Only to find that one won't give their heart to you
Have you ever closed your eyes and
Dreamed that they were there And all you can do is wait for the day when they will care
Bridge:
What do I gotta do to get you in my arms babyWhat do I gotta say to get to your heartTo make you understand how I need you next to meGotta get you in my world'Cuz baby I can't sleep
Verse:
She rolls the window down

Art imitating life and life imitating art...
The place is not important. It can occur possibly anywhere. It will probably be remembered at a latter date as a place of significance. It is an age old story.
“Hey do you mind if I turn down the air-con? It’s quite cold.” She turns to ask.
“Sure” he says as he reaches for the air-conditioner button. “But it might get stuffy though, better wind down the windows.”
A cool breeze enters the car as the windows come down. The sound of the music playing is slowly replaced by the sound of traffic. Other than the sound of traffic and traces of a song on the radio, the car remains silent. His eyes remain on the road whereas she continues to look out the window. She’s seems to be looking at or looking for something.
“Nice night isn’t it?” It doesn’t really matter who said this statement. It was meant to be an opener.
“Yes it is.”
“The sky is so clear tonight, you can see so many stars.” She utters, with awe in her voice.
“Wha.. ? Sorry I didn’t catch what you just said. Too noisy. Let me turn off the radio.” He turns the volume knob to zero. The sound of vehicles on the road still remain fairly audible, “Well, that didn’t really improve the situation much now.”
“Yeah. Heh.” She grins at him.
“Let’s just talk louder. So what was it you were saying?”
“I was saying that it’s a lovely night. The sky is so clear that you can see so many stars.”
He looks out his side. The sky was indeed filled tonight. “Yeah they’re really all out tonight.” He turns back to look at her. She’s back to looking out the window. He sighs softly and returns his focus to driving. I wonder if she knows how I feel about her.
Why did I let the conversation just die off like that? I should have changed the topic to something else. Sigh, why do I get so tongue-tied around him. I just can’t seem to get the right words.
She looks up at the night sky and wishes upon one of the many stars. Her wish like that of the many other people in the world looking up at the night sky then, are hung upon the multitude of stars.
Ok, I have decided I shall just be open about it. Like removing a band-aid. One quick brisk motion. What’s the worst that could happen?
“Hey I’ve got something to tell you.”
Comments: This story is non-canon with the other stories so far. This story was written because some people were saying how my stories have gotten quite dark and I did promise a happier story for the start of the new year. It’s kind of cheesy but before everyone goes on a warpath, the story is actually based on 2 songs which I find quite nice. “Crazy for this girl” by Evan and Jaron and “Have you ever” by Brandy. Lyrics in the following post.
P.s: I’ve left the ending blank so you all can fill in your own happy endings.
