Murphy was right.
My other hard disk died last night. Yes. This is the one that was bought at the same time as the previous one that died.. It's frigging 3 months old. My other hard disk which was crap and used way longer lasted all of 5 years. Seagate hard disk drives suck. Once again i've lost all my data again.. And unlike previously, there's no way I can get this exchanged at least in the near future. The exchange centre's operating time is mon-fri 9-5:30. Stupid Seagate..

Behold.. the Ear Syringe!!
Signed on the dotted line today. Therefore I'm officially employed. Yay me.. Vincent got the job too.. coolness.. at least I'll know someone at work. Though we're in different buildings.. but oh well.. can still eat lunch together. Now waiting for Soon Hock to get his act together and hopefully get hired.. haha.. then we'll be short of just Weiyang to recreate the Bridge playing group..
Had a medical checkup after the signing. Usual stuff, height, weight, doctor making comment about my weight and all.. etc etc.. but the most unusual thing was the ear syringe. Cause it seems that my right ear was quite dirty so the doctor actually flushed it out with a syringe.. It was a ginormous (see the word is used again!!) metal syringe firing water into my ear.. quite interesting sensation. It's like a mini amusement park ride.

Musical trains during rush hour traffic
After a tiring day of shopping for office supplies downtown, I was met with the unusual game of musical trains at Dhoby Gaut NEL. As I was walking towards the NEL, I heard the announcement that the train service towards Harbor Front was distrupted due to technical difficulties (now revealed to be a power cable snapping, go youtube.com to search for more clips). Since I was headed towards Little India, this should theoretically not affect me, but it did. As I went down the escalator, I saw hordes of people waiting for the train. Oh the horror. Then the game of musical trains began. When the train arrived, everybody streamed in. However a short while later, the announcement was made to board the train on the other platform so this horde streams out. After we come out, shortly, another announcement is made that we board back on the other train. And just for fun, we had to do that again. Normally I would be mildly amused, however I was lugging about 5kg worth of stationary in my bag. And I had been doing so for a few hours already. Incidently, Little India is 1 stop away from Dhoby Gaut.

My Salute to (good) teachers all round the world
It's still a few mths from teachers day, but I would like to show my admiration for teachers all round the world. Teaching is the one of the most thankless professions in the world. If you're a teacher in a so called better/good school, sorry but you aren't really getting the whole teaching experience. I did relief teaching for the first time yesterday and man it was tiring. The waking up early is one thing, but to actually control a class of students. That's nearly impossible. You shout and all just to get their attention and that works for like 10 seconds. In the last class I took yesterday, a riot nearly broke out.. finally after some wheeling and dealing (which I do best), managed to redeem the situation a bit.
Now another pt to address about the so called problematic students. I encountered quite a few yesterday. However, yesterday, I realised that they are as much a victim of circumstance. Coming from broken families and the school also being unable to cater to their needs on a more individual basis due to shortage of resources. I wonder if our education budget is constantly being increased and if it is, is it being given evenly through all schools. I read that military budget is always increasing because you cannot slack in the defence(defense?) area, but that's just rubbish.
Finally a salute to Ms Choi. She's one cool lady. Having to teach difficult students and do so much admin like assign the blur blur relief teachers to classes and having to discipline the students of these classes as well. I'll probably never meet her again but she's definitely a exemplary teacher.

My First (official) Interview
Went for my 1st job interview yesterday at a semiconductor company. Firstly, the company is very very far. It's in the far north. How far north? It's very near the causeway. Secondly, security is very tight. How often have you gone to a building where they make you a customised pass with your picture when you go in? Thirdly, I think they deliberately make the aircon in the interview room colder. Fourthly, having an interview where it's 4 people vs 1 is hardly fair. Fifthly, it's quite hard to think and process technical questions when there's 4 people staring at you. Sixthly (does this word even exist?), I hope the job isn't as tough as the interview. Seventhly, went back to Marsiling Mrt again.. it's been a few years. But it looks exactly the same as it was the last time I was there.

Oh well, anyway will be doing my first relief teacher job tomorrow. Wonder how the kids will be like.

My review of Superman Returns
Yes yes, I know the movie has been out for quite long and everybody and their dog has caught it already. Anyway, I've finally caught it.
Let me start off by saying that the first superhero movie I ever watched was Superman or might be Superman 2. But it was definitely Superman. And let's just say that Bryan Singer knows that he's doing. Everything from the intro to the ending is done as a homage to the original intro and ending of the original Superman movies. There were points in the movie where I was thinking how people would get out of such situations as presented in the movie (airplane, growing islands etc etc) without a superman present.. then I realised that the reason such scenarios were written in were because they wanted to bring across the point that for superman to be super.. he has to face off immense challenges.. like lifting up an entire continent/island. I also liked how they used the old/unused footage from the original 2 superman movies with Marlon Brando (the Godfather to you guys.. :D)
Way better than X-men 3...

"It'll live longer.."
Overheard the salesgirl at Sam & Yick's Aquarium in Marine Parade on Saturday while looking at some pups with some CG ppl. She was telling some potential dog buyers that castration is good for the dog, cause it'll live longer. WHAT?! Ok, I don't profess to know much about human biology and stuff but castration will prolong one's lifespan? Let's castrate you and see how much longer you live.. (ok I dun think it's possible for female castration but for argument's sake..)

Ladies and Gentlemen
I implore you.. update your blogs.. haha.. I am so bored of going thru the blogs that I know of and finding no updates.. I mean there's the usual suspects (Xinyi, I'm looking at you..) but even she updated due to her 21st birthday. :D Happy 21st. As far as I know, only Khai and I are updating.. dang it.. I'm trying to save money but staying home, but you people aren't providing me with enough amusement. Even the media circus with mrbrown being sacked from Today doesn't seem to do it for me.

So ladies and gentlemen, please, write something on your respective blogs.. something that amuses.. make up something if your day was dull, write that you were captured by ancient mayans popping up from underground tunnels.. doesn't matter.. just make it so.

Anyway, advance birthday greeting to Sharon Chan Mei Mei..

Wouldda, Couldda, Shouldda...

I don’t really remember what came before this. My memory is hazy. My earliest memory is waking up and reporting for work. If you can call what me and my fellow colleagues do work. Our daily routine, at least from what I’ve gathered from my fellow colleagues, involves waking up, and going to work. We eat our meals at work, then go home and sleep. It would be dull if not for the nature of our work.

Our job is to store messages from earth. Ok wait… that isn’t really an accurate description of what we do. We store the lost messages. Messages that people send to one another but mysteriously get lost along the way? It all comes here. No one knows why certain messages come here or who decides what messages come here. When I started working here, messages were mainly letters, faxes, packages and occasional telegraphs. But as time has gone by, the amount of messages has increased. The most commonly received ones now are sms-es and e-mails. Most of the time we get inconsequential messages such as “Dinner chng 7 to 730” or even spam. Yes, even spam comes to us. On more than one occasion, I’ve received mails on products meant to improve my love life.

There are also some sweet messages that pass between lovers that end up here. Or messages from would-be lovers, professing one’s love for another also end up here. There are also messages of a more serious nature. For example, in our archives there’s actually a telegraph from Japan to America regarding Pearl Harbor. Turns out that not everyone in the military was for the bombing of Pearl Harbor and tried to give America advance warning, but the message never went thru. It came here. None of the people who sent the message talk about it because it would be admitting to an act of treason. They just see it as a form of divine intervention. A more recent example was the 9/11 hijacking. We actually received a message from one of the hijackers’ hours before the hijacking. It was a warning. Seems he was starting to doubt the plan and decided to take a gamble. He would send an e-mail to the FBI. If the e-mail went through, so be it. The e-mail ended up in our office.

When such messages come to us, I always wonder what would have happened if it didn’t come here. Would the world be vastly different? Would the world be a better place? I don’t know. None of us here know. We just read and sort.

Comments: Another concept I had a while back.. Where do lost sms-es and e-mails go to? Especially during holiday seasons.. sometimes we receive multiple messages.. sometimes we don't even get that one message. Sometimes we send stuff to people, but they never get it, and we never know they never got it.. well it's happened to me before. So.. I'm just saying..

Amendment: The above is a story. It is pure fiction. It is not me at a new job as someone has just asked me (*koff* Amanda *koff*).. I do not have a job to spy on people's messages.. I am still as of now unemployed.

Variable Morality
Came across this blog post based on a recent comic book. In it a hero in a disaster devestated area lets a thief run off with necessities because the shopkeeper was selling the merchandise at a much higher price. Profiteering it is called.
