Spiderman a villain? Say it ain't so!!!
http://cbs2.com/watercooler/watercooler_story_053092249.html

Time to get on the soapbox again..
Was just reading the Today papers.. Saw this person saying how "Brokeback Mountain" should have 2 versions.. one for 21 and above.. another one for 18 and above.. I was thinking.. why stop there? Have one for 16 and above, 12 and above.. kindergarten kids.. but I exaggerate..

R(A) has stopped being an issue for Singaporeasn for years already. For crying out loud people, there are so many ways to catch the show (in no order of merit):
1) Fake i/c.
2) Sneak in.
3) Go to Empress if I'm not wrong where they don't check at all..
4) Wait for the dvd/vcd to come out and get it from overseas. Order in from Amazon or something.
5) Download.
6) Find someone who's going overseas and ask them to buy for you.
Seriously, in a day and age where information flows so freely (abeit reluctantly) and is so easily accessed, complaining about such things just show immaturity and a lack of trying..
Stupid whiny kids who complain about not being able to watch.. why in my time, it was a real problem.. haha.. Had to wait till I went overseas before I could watch shows like Dracula. Now if you want, use programs like BitTorrent, and voila.. u get it in like 2 days max..
Of course if you all didn't realise, all my ideas are illegal except for pts 4 and 6.

Finally.. black suit spidey!!!
Let us herald the coming of symbiote costume spidey.. and with that.. VENOM!! hahaha.. Note: Above pic isn't black and white.. his actual costume is black.. way cool.. But not the original black costume as comic fans will attest to..

Interesting Ice Cream Test
Got it off Cheryl's blog. I'm a flavour that I've actually seen in Sg before.. heh.

CHERRY GARCIA!
You scored 70% SWEET, 48% CHUNKY, and 55% UNIQUE!
cherry sweet cream base with cherries and fudge chunks

Awesome...you are one of my personal favs: Cherry Garcia. You fall in the middle on all measurements- sweet, wild, and unique, but not overwhelmingly so on any of those. You make a good friend, able to share your unique perspectives on things, and able to have fun without winding up in jail or something. Good job.

Love Potion No.9
“Hi, ok this may sound crazy, but I figure this is the kind of place that would probably have what I was looking for. I mean you sell all sorts of odd antiquities and what not.” Jeremy looked around the shop.
“And what exactly is it that you are looking for?” The shopkeeper inquires without looking at Jeremy. He’s busy dusting the countertop and arranging the displays.
“Uh… a love potion” he mutters softly under his breath, the same way a person would ask the pharmacist at the counter for medication for embarrassing problems.
“Come again?” the shopkeeper looks up from his work and looks at Jeremy through his thick glasses.
“A love potion.” Jeremy looks around and speaks up a bit louder than before, his face starting to turn red. The shop is relatively empty with the exception of 3 other people besides him and the shopkeeper. There’s a scary looking couple decked out in black lipstick and black nail polish looking at some books on “Summoning Spirits in 10 easy steps”. There’s also a blind man in the shop. He’s deciding on what easy listening music he should buy.

“Pardon?” This time the shopkeeper leans over the counter. “I’m sorry but you’ll need to speak up. My hearing isn’t that good.”

“A LOVE POTION! I’m looking for a LOVE POTION!”

“Oh that. Yes we have it. Just got a new shipment yesterday. Very potent stuff. Made from the glands of the rare Amazonian spitting tree frog by witch doctors amongst other things,” said the shopkeeper as he took a small glass vial from the glass counter.

“And these witchdoctors market these products to you how?” Jeremy asks skeptically as he looks at the glass vial.

“I have a friend who knows a man who has contacts with these witchdoctors.”
“Interesting story. But more importantly, will it work?”
“Of course it will.”
“Have you tried it yourself?”

“I have no need for such things. I am an old man after all. In my youth perhaps, but now? Quite unlikely.” The shopkeeper sighed as if reminiscing about his youth.

“Ok. Anyway how much for 1 bottle?” Jeremy asked, wanting to get this conversation over and done
with.
“$150.”
“What?! $150 for this small bottle?!” Jeremy suddenly realized that he was drawing a lot of attention to himself and he toned down. “What’s inside this, gold?”
“A lot of exotic ingredients that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Worth much more than gold.”
“Well that’s still quite a lot of money for something which may or may not work.”
“Tell you what, if it doesn’t work, I’ll give you back your money.”
Hmm, I’ve got nothing to lose. If it works, it’s money well spent. If not, I get my money back.
“All right then, I’ll take a bottle.”
“You won’t regret it.”

There were doubts running through his head when he decided on how to administer the potion. This is wrong man, you’re drugging her. You’re forcing her to act against her will.
“No I’m not. I just want her to see me for who I am.”
Yes. A person who drugs women to make them love him.
“No, I don’t. I just want her to at least come out with me on one date. Then she’ll be able to know me outside of work.”
Then do it without the potion.
“ I will. After the first date. The shopkeeper said that one drop lasts for only a few hours. If she agrees to go on a second date after the first date, it would mean that she really wants to and it isn’t because of potion. Right?”
The voice in his head, was now silent.
“Ok then.”

He added the love potion in her drink when he helped her refill her bottle. He went back to his cubicle and waited a while after she took a sip. He didn’t really know how long it would be before it took effect. In fact he didn’t even know what the exact dosage was. Sure it was 1 drop, but 1 drop to how many part? All these questions came to him while he sat and waited for her to take a sip. It seemed like she would never take a sip, but she finally did. He waited for 5 minutes then he went to her cubicle. There was some difficulty getting out the initial words because his throat had gone dry. However he managed to get the words out in the end and her reply, those 3 words, he’ll never forget.
She had looked up and with a smile said, “I’d love to.”

That night, they went to a restaurant, which Jeremy frequented. They talked about everything, from conversation starters such as favorite movie to topics like childhood dreams. After dinner, he offered to share a cab ride back with her, but she declined saying that there was a direct bus to her place. So they sat at the bus stop and chatted while waiting for the bus. Before the bus came, he asked if she would like to go out for a dinner and movie the coming weekend. She accepted. He watched as she got on the bus, feeling overwhelming joy.
“Life is good.”

When Saturday came around, he received a message on his handphone. The message read ‘Srry have 2 cancel. Somethng came up. C u Monday.’ The emotional high that he was on for the past few days finally came to a halt. Doubt began to enter his mind.
The potion finally wore off. That’s why she cancelled. She isn’t interested in you.
“No, something came up. That’s what she messaged.”
That’s just a nice way for her to reject you.
“No, you’re wrong.”
Is that so? If you’re so confident, why haven’t you thrown away the rest of the love potion?
“It costs $150! That’s a lot of money. I’m not going to just flush it away. I’ll just keep it..”
For what? As a souvenir? I can see it now. 50 years from now, both of you are sitting and reminiscing and you tell her “Dear, this here is the love potion that I used to make you fall in love with me all those years ago.” Yeah, that’ll sit well with her. You’re obviously rationalizing.
“No I won’t use it on her.”

But that was not the case. He added the potion to her water on Monday. This time round as a precaution, he added 5 drops. He never asked her what came up that Saturday. Fear and doubt kept him from doing that. Not long after, the 2 of them became attached. And yet he continued to administer the love potion. The potion ran out not long after. He went back down to the shop. This time there wasn’t any doubt or hesitation. The voice in his head had disappeared. He bought the shopkeeper’s entire supply of love potion and ordered another crate. He couldn’t afford to lose her.

A year after he asked her out, he proposed. People commented that he was moving too fast but what did they know. He had found true love. And more importantly, he didn’t want to lose her. As they became closer and closer, he increased the dosage. It also became easier to administer the potion. Fatigue seemed to take its toll on her as the wedding drew closer. Her health suffered. It was not that Jeremy wasn’t helping her. In fact he was working as hard. The only problem was that the wedding was too rushed. There was too much to do and too little time. Finally, the fatigue took its toll on her and 2 weeks to the big day, she collapsed at work.

The doctor diagnosed her as being overworked and ordered that she spend the next 2 weeks resting at home but not before he ordered some blood work to be done on her. Her symptoms seemed like fatigue, but his instincts told him to that there was more to it. And his instincts paid off. The results of the blood test troubled him. The results showed that the patient was suffering from chronic mercury poisoning amongst other things. There was a build up of other kinds of toxins in her system. Her kidneys were also failing simultaneously as a result of this. He made 2 calls after this. One to the patient herself and the other to the police. There was a chance this woman was being poisoned.

There was a brief period of investigation. The doctor theorized that the poison was being administered to her in small dosages over a long period of time. Police investigators took back cups, plates and cutleries from her house. They also examined the water bottle and the pair of chopsticks she kept at work. They found the same traces of the substance at both places. The common link being her fiancé. They called him in for questioning and also obtained a warrant to search his house. They found a box of small unlabelled bottles. The same substance was found in these bottles. When interrogated, he admitted to having added the substance to her food and water however he also said that he did not realize that the substance was actually toxic. He also appealed to go and see her in hospital. He wanted to apologize and explain and ask for her forgiveness. Given the unusual nature of the case, permission was granted.

In the hospital, she was hooked up to various machines. One to take the place of her kidneys since they had both failed. She was also having difficulty breathing so she was hooked up to an artificial respirator as well. She had lost a lot of weight. He could hardly recognize her. Tears started to well up in his eyes.

“I’m so sorry.” He sobbed. “I never wanted this to happened to you.”
“J..Jeremy..” she struggled to get her words out through the respirator
“Wait, hear me out. I’m responsible for you being in this condition. I’ve been putting the love potion in your food and water since the day I asked you out. And I kept on adding since then. I was insecure that I would lose you. I originally just wanted to use it that one time, but then it got out of hand…”
She gestured to her respirator, as if asking Jeremy to help her remove it. Jeremy carefully removed the respirator and set it down beside her.
“Oh Jeremy… You are such a fool. I’ve always had a tremendous crush on you since the day we first met and I was always waiting for you to ask me out. You didn’t need the potion.”
“What?.. You…No…” Blood was coming out from her mouth. She was flatlining. “Doctors!! Nurses!! Anyone!! Help!” A flurry white rushed into the room and tried to save her. People shouting instructions at one another. Jeremy was lost in the cacophony of words, he could only stare helplessly at his beloved as she lay dying.
She was pronounced dead at 0107hrs. The charge against Jeremy was changed from intent to kill to manslaughter. He did not bother to prepare a defense. He pleaded guilty to all counts against him. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and he spent the rest of his life staring at the prison wall, a beaten and broken man.
“Wow, that’s a really sad story, Artie.” Jacob commented as he put his empty lunch packet into the paper bag.
“Yes, it really is.” Artie got up from the steps of the Mirage building to stretch his legs. He spent his days sitting by the steps collecting money from kind passer-bys and in exchange, he told stories to whoever had time to spare. Today was a slow day and Jacob was his only audience. Jacob used to stop by during his lunch breaks when he was a police officer, but after the airport incident, he quit the force and now was applying for a security position in Mirage Inc.
“Well at least it’s just a story right?”
“Well, not all my stories are fictional now.” Artie replied as he sat down. He placed his white cane across his legs as he made himself comfortable again. He felt the contents of his hat, which he placed in front of him. “Anyway, seems to be a slow day for me.”
“Yeah, well nice talking to you, I’ve got a job interview to go to. See you later.”

Comments: This story was written because of an idea I had bouncing around in my mind for quite a while. Kinda inspired from the tales from the crypt stories, especially the one where the lady who was given a love potion came back to life as a zombie.. This story is also meant to be sort of the opposite of the sappy story I wrote awhile back. This story is darker for one. Feel free to feedback on this. Gives a different slant on Valentine's day as well.

Corrinne May Concert
Well .. what can I say. It was good. Everything a concert should be. Interaction between the performer and the audience. Banter is good. Her songs sound really good with the string accompaniment.. makes the instruments not so boring.. (Haha to Xinyi if she's reading this.. heh) And to top it off, she did 3 songs from her new album, an encore.. and I got her autograph.. haha..

Rainy Streets and Smelly Feet..
Weather this week has been crazy. Super hot one day and pouring the next. Was just at Tampines having dinner with Abigail and Andy after sending June off at the airport. While walking to the mrt, I noticed the smell. It was the smell of stinky feet but magnified quite a few times.. Everything on the ground stank... I suspect the rain water has something to do with it..

The OFFSIDES rule explained for girls (and Dari)... (Ripped from http://chump-style.blogspot.com/ )
Put simply...........You're in a shoe shop, second in the queue for the till. Behind the shopassistant on the till is a pair of shoes which you have seen and which youmust have. The female shopper in front of you (Steve)has seen them also and is eyeing themwith desire. Both of you have forgotten your purses (that would be Dari and Steve). It would be totally rude to push in front of the first woman if you had nomoney to pay for the shoes. The shop assistant remains at the till waiting.Your friend(Jamma)is trying on another pair of shoes at the back of the shop and sees your dilemma. She prepares to throw her purse to you.If she does so, you can catch the purse, then walk round the other shopperand buy the shoes. At a pinch she could throw the purse ahead of the other shopper and,*whilstit is in flight* you could nip around the other shopper, catch the purse andbuy the shoes. However until the purse had *actually been thrown* you are not allowed tomove infront of the other shopper - (otherwise you would be 'Offside')...

Conquered the Wall!

Went rockclimbing again today. And the training I did prior to this and after the last session paid off. Hands didn't cramp up and muscles didn't get "pumped". Managed to clear all the walls this time without stopping. Now need to train harder to conquer the overhang.. freaky overhang.. need like.. mega upperbody strength.. but proud of my friend Vincent who managed to clear all.. including the overhang which the pros find tough on his first try at rock climbing.. haha..

Good effort from Sarah also.. train .. next time can clear those 2 walls.. confirm one. :)
